Biography

Mark J. Ghilarducci, MD is a native of California, born and raised in Sacramento. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a Fellow of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Ghilarducci is a fellowship trained sports medicine physician and has a specialty interest and training in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee with additional interest in joint replacement surgery and general orthopedics. As an orthopedic surgeon, he has performed more than 3,000 arthroscopic procedures.

Dr. Ghilarducci’s interest in orthopedics and sports medicine was sparked during his intercollegiate NCAA basketball participation as a scholarship athlete. He received his undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif. After graduation, Dr. Ghilarducci attended medical school at the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine and earned his medical degree in 1985. In 1990, he completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Southern California. Dr. Ghilarducci’s sports medicine fellowship was at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Mass. where he worked with the Boston Celtics and Harvard University as well as the Boston Blazers, a professional lacrosse team. After completing his sports medicine fellowship, Dr. Ghilarducci returned to Southern California and joined Ventura Orthopedics in 1992. His Board Certification in Orthopedic Surgery was completed in 1993 with re-certification in 2003 and 2013. Dr. Ghilarducci holds an additional subspecialty Board Certification in Orthopedic Sports Medicine which he completed in 2011.

Dr. Ghilarducci has served as team physician for a number of local high school, college and recreational sports teams. With other physicians in his group, he provides athletic pre-participation physicals for hundreds of local athletes each year and is director of a sports injury clinic. Dr. Ghilarducci is currently the team physician for Rio Mesa High School and Oxnard College.

Dr. Ghilarducci remains highly involved in local and regional education with lectures on numerous orthopedic and sports related topics. His research and academic interests have included the anterior cruciate ligament and rotator cuff tears of the shoulder. Dr. Ghilarducci has written several textbook chapters on the rotator cuff injuries and treatment. Always on the cutting edge of medicine, he is one of the first in Ventura County to have performed Autologous Cartilage Implantation. Also, Dr. Ghilarducci provides PRP [platelet rich plasma] injections as an alternative to operative treatment for orthopedic injuries.

Dr. Ghilarducci is active in the Ventura County Medical association as a long time Board member and past President of the Ventura County Medical Association. He has been a delegate to the California Medical Association [CMA] since 2005. Dr. Ghilarducci has also served as chairman of the delegation for District V of CMA.

Dr. Ghilarducci lives in Camarillo with his wife and they have two sons. Many of his outside activities revolve around his family and include running, biking, fishing, basketball and golf.
