Steve Edwards, PT, DPT, OCS
Steve Edwards has been with Ventura Orthopedics Therapy Services since its inception in the fall of 2002. After receiving a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Physiology from U.C. Davis, he went on to earn his Masters of Physical Therapy degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in 1997 and his Orthopedic Specialist certification in 2009, and doctor of physical therapy in 2013 from Massachusetts General Hospital IHP. Steve has worked in several areas of physical therapy. His appreciation for physical therapy is enhanced by his own participation in a number of sports and the satisfaction he derives from working with patients of different ages, helping them meet their individual goals. Steve believes that education is the foundation on which a successful rehabilitation program is built. In the clinic he uses this principle with the high school or college athlete recovering from a shoulder reconstruction as well as the stroke patient relearning how to walk.
Steve has completed a year long manual therapy fellowship, is a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist and regularly takes specialty courses in evaluation and treatment of orthopedic injuries. He is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association's national and California chapter as well as a member of the Orthopedic and Sport Specialty sections of the APTA. Steve lives in Ventura with his wife and three children where they enjoy surfing, hiking, backpacking and snowboarding.
Rebecca Guinn, PT, MPT, OCS

Pain-free movement is the key to achieving optimal health, well-being, and optimal quality of life. Physical therapy is important to Rebecca because she believes, "It is not only how long we live, but the quality of each day of our life that truly matters."
Rebecca attended California State University, Northridge (CSUN) where she earned her Bachelor of Kinesiology (Exercise Science) and her Master of Physical Therapy. She actively participates in continuing education yearly. Of note, Rebecca obtained her Orthopedic Clinical Specialists certification in 2013 after completing a residency in orthopedic physical therapy. She is an active participant in the American Physical Therapy Association. She has special training in orthopedics, pediatrics, ACL rehabilitation, sports specific rehabilitation, Movement Science, yoga, Pilates, and rehabilitation after radiation.
Rebecca also enjoys being a part of the learning environment for others. She has mentored physical therapy students since 2011 in the clinical environment, believing every great PT in our community offers an improved reputation for our profession. She is also a part-time anatomy professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at CSUN and for yoga teacher trainings. One of her special interests is fostering healthy lifestyles for children and adults. In partnership with Network for a Healthy California, a branch of the department of public health, she created "The Shape of Yoga," a physical activity and nutrition booklet for families designed to fight the growing epidemics of diabetes and obesity. This four year endeavor was awarded the title of California’s best public health booklet of 2010.
Rebecca believes in optimizing quality of life by optimizing movement patterns.
Bernadette Hernandez, PT
Simi Valley Office
Bernadette Hernandez joined VOMG in April 2012. She was born in Guam and raised in Oxnard. She completed her Physical Therapy degree at California State University of Long Beach in May 1997. A majority of her career prior to joining Ventura Orthopedics consisted of directing and managing sports and aquatic outpatient clinics, while maintaining a full patient load.
She is also a Certified Pilates Instructor, Certified Strength and Conditioning Instructor, and has specialized in aquatic therapy.
In her free time, Bernadette is usually traveling - trying to knock off all of the places she would like to visit off her bucket list. When she's not traveling, you can find Bernadette river rafting, cross fitting, wine tasting or kickboxing. You won't miss her - she is the boisterous one!
Janelle Johnson PT, MPT
Janelle Johnson joined Ventura Orthopedics Therapy Services in May 2010 and primarily works out of the Oxnard PT office. Janelle is originally from Florida and earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science from Florida State University in 2004 before relocating to California to complete her Masters of Physical Therapy from California State University Long Beach in 2009.
Janelle is also a certified Performance Enhancement Specialist with a passion for sports! Janelle enjoys working with a variety of patient population and strives to work in a positive uplifting environment. She enjoys the field of orthopedics and is very passionate about her job and the people she helps.
In her free time, Janelle enjoys hiking, working out, traveling, spending time with family, and the beach. Janelle and her soon to be husband and two step children currently reside in Ventura. Janelle looks forward to advancing her career and clinical skills here with Ventura Orthopedics.
Debbie Nadel, PT

Debbie Nadel brings a contemporary approach to her 30 years as a physical therapist. While having owned, managed and consulted PT practices, she remains focused on hands-on, solution-based treatment that is designed to achieve desired outcomes in realistic timeframes. A mother of 2 grown sons, she knows the importance of maintaining an upbeat and positive clinical environment where patients are both challenged and respected.
Nicole Cortez, PT, DPT, ATC
Nicole joined the Ventura Orthopedics Team in January of 2015. She received her Bachelors in Athletic Training in 2003 from the University of Southern Mississippi and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2012 from Franklin Pierce University. Nicole is well traveled but considers Seattle her hometown. She came to Southern California, where her husband is stationed with the US Navy.
Nicole has always had a interest in sports, which originally sparked her enthusiasm with sports rehabilitation. She uses this foundation to fuel her passion to ensure patients are recovered to the best of their abilities. She has worked in the outpatient orthopedic as well as home health settings.
Nicole enjoys spending time with her husband and three children where they enjoy watching and playing sports, traveling, spending time at the beach and gardening!
Shelby Doud, PT, MPT, OCS
Shelby started her career with Ventura Orthopedics in August of 2012. Shelby graduated with her Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from California State University, Sacramento in the Fall of 2011 and moved to Morro Bay. After her husband Daniel graduated from Cal Poly, they moved down to Ventura County to start their careers. Shelby recently received her Specialty in Orthopedics in June of 2015 and is a firm believer in movement based therapy interventions to help patients achieve their goals.
Shelby has always enjoyed participating in sports, but only ever excelled in extreme sports such as wakeboarding and snowboarding. After moving to Southern California, Shelby has begun surfing more and has taken up kiteboarding and scuba diving. Shelby also enjoys hiking, mountain biking, and spending time with husband Daniel and golden retriever Bailey.
Scott Edwards PT, MPT, SCS
Scott Edwards received a Bachelor’s degree from UC Davis, a Master’s degree in exercise physiology from San Diego State University and a Master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Southern California (USC). He has been practicing physical therapy since 1994 when his career began in orthopedics in Northern California. Scott has been a physical therapist for the Ventura County Fusion Soccer club since 2007 and the strength and conditioning coach for the club since 2008. In 2012, Scott completed a full-time, year long sports physical therapy residence at USC. At USC, his primary responsibilities included the swim and dive teams as well as training room coverage for all athletes. In 2012, Scott joined Ventura Orthopedics as a full-time physical therapist. He is board certified by the American Physical Therapy Association as a Sports Clinical Specialist. In 2016, Scott successfully completed Level 1 of the Titleist Performance Institute’s Medical certification, which includes education and training in golf swing analysis and movement screening to determine the source of golf swing faults. That information then leads to prescriptive exercises to correct the movement faults that cause the swing faults. His personal passions include working in the yard, watching sports, music and enjoying the passage of time.
Robin Etu, PT, MSPT
Robin joined the Ventura Orthopedics team in December 2015. She earned her Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from Regis University in 2000. She has worked with a diverse population of patients—across the lifespan—in outpatient orthopedics, including both athletes and non-athletes. She has called Boulder, Colorado home for 23 years and recently moved to Ventura, CA with her family.
Robin is a caring physical therapist who combines manual therapy techniques, patient specific therapeutic exercise and education to maximize each person's return to function. Robin has completed Level 2 training for Trigger Point Dry Needling and has completed training in the Graston Technique, an instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization approach.
Robin is married with a wonderful daughter and a welsh terrier. She loves to spend time with her family and be outdoors doing anything, including biking, hiking, running and exploring the beaches and water activities California has to offer!
Lisa Guiteras, OTR/L, CHT

Staff Certified Hand Therapist/Occupational Therapist
Lisa received her B.S. in Occupational Therapy from The Ohio State University in 1987. She initially worked in acute care where she saw a multitude of diagnoses. She transitioned to a rehabilitation unit and then quickly became interested in orthopedics and hand therapy. She has worked in hand therapy since 1991 and became a Certified Hand Therapist in 1995. She understands that continuing her medical education is an ongoing process and, as such, continues to supplement her education with courses.
She has worked in small independently owned orthopedic clinics as well as large teaching medical institutions and enjoys the variety of patients she has had the privilege of treating. She values the communication and relationships that is built between surgeon and therapist to optimize patient outcome.
Lisa is originally from Ohio, but has resided in Southern California since 1988. She has 2 teenage daughters and enjoys spending time with them skiing, camping, hiking, going to the beach and doing most any outdoor activity that Southern California offers.
Kristen Joyce, PT, MPT, OCS
Kristen graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, specializing in Exercise Science, in 2010 and a master's degree in Physical Therapy in 2012. After working for a year in Orange County, she relocated to Ventura County and joined Ventura Orthopedics in March 2014. Kristen is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association as well as the orthopedics and sports specialty sections. As of June 2016, she is certified as an Orthopedic Certified Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. She enjoys spending time with her husband and son, cooking, running and crafting.
Jessica Kezirian, PT, MPT

Jessica Kezirian joined the Physical Therapy team in Simi Valley in October 2011. She received her Masters in Physical Therapy from California State University, Northridge in May 2009, as well as her certification as a strength and conditioning specialist. Jessica is also trained in both mat and reformer Pilates. She has a passion for helping people and tries to promote an active lifestyle for her patients. She enjoys working with a variety of patients and her goal is to return them to the activities they love most. Outside of the clinic, Jessica loves spending time outdoors with her husband and puppy.
Breanna Langel, MPT, OCS
Simi Valley Office
Breanna received a bachelor’s degree from University of California, Santa Barbara and a master’s degree in physical therapy from California State University, Northridge. She completed an orthopedic residency through Kaiser Permanente and is an Orthopedic Certified Specialist.
Before joining Ventura Orthopedics in 2014, Breanna interned with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, volunteered at DaNang Rehabilitation in DaNang, Vietnam and worked in outpatient orthopedics at Kaiser Permanente in Downey, Calif. She uses an exercise-based approach to strengthen muscles and correct faulty mechanics to improve function in activities of daily living, work and sports.
Before becoming a physical therapist, Breanna worked in the travel industry. In addition to travel, she enjoys hiking, paddle boarding, yoga, weight lifting and spending time with her family. Breanna lives in the San Fernando Valley with her bulldog, Dellanore.
Stephanie Mooney, DPT
Simi Valley Office
Stephanie received a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, specializing in movement science, from the University of Michigan and a doctorate degree in physical therapy from the University of Southern California. A Graston Provider, she has worked in outpatient orthopedics since 2007, treating all ages and diagnoses. Stephanie joined Ventura Orthopedics in 2017 and practices in the Simi Valley location.
At the University of Michigan, Stephanie was a member and captain of the women’s water polo team. Her interest in physical therapy developed while spending time in the training room rehabbing a shoulder injury sustained from years of swimming and water polo. Because of her experience with injuries, Stephanie enjoys helping patients return to their activities by reducing pain and improving function. In her free time, Stephanie loves spending time with her family.
Rachel Nygren, PT, DPT
Rachel joined the VO team in 2015. A Southern California native, she earned a Bachelors degree in Marketing from Indiana University. After working in marketing for several years she decided to make the career change to physical therapy. She earned her doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) from USC in 2008. Since then she has worked in a variety of settings including orthopedics, pediatrics, and home health. She enjoys working with patients to restore function and achieve their goals.
She lives with her husband and two kids in Thousand Oaks, where they enjoy hiking, swimming, and going to the beach.
Adriana Oliveros, PT
Adriana was born and raised in Oxnard and graduated from Oxnard High School. Following graduation she attended California State University, Northridge where she earned a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration, Finance in 2008. She enjoys swimming and traveling with her husband.
Adriana joined Ventura Orthopedics in July 2015. She earned her doctorate of physical therapy in 2014 from the University of St. Augustine, San Marcos California. She decided to begin her career as a traveling physical therapist and had the opportunity to work in several states throughout the country gaining experiencing in inpatient and outpatient settings. Adriana and her husband, Robert, returned to Ventura County after he separated from the Army in June 2015.
Jackie Rood, PT

Jackie Rood joined VOMG in December 2011. She has worked as a physical therapist in Simi Valley since 1994 and has experience in aquatic rehabilitation, inpatient and acute care, pilates and management of outpatient services. In her personal time, she enjoys spending it with her family, jet skiing, hiking, swimming, traveling and taking exercise classes.
Laurel Schwartzkopf, PT, MPT, OCS
Laurel joined the Physical Therapy team at Ventura Orthopedics in 2010. She received a master's in physical therapy from Cal State Northridge after getting a BS in Biology from UCSB. Growing up in Mammoth Lakes, she witnessed how integral physical therapy is to returning function and sports after an injury. She is excited to be working with and learning from the Ventura Ortho staff and patients and looks forward to honing her skills as a manual and sports therapist. Outside the clinic, she enjoys surfing, mountain biking, and skiing. She lives in Ventura with her husband.
Jared Sinn, PT, DPT

Jared Sinn earned his Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from California State University, Northridge (CSUN). As well as practicing as a Physical Therapist, he is a part-time anatomy professor for the DPT program at CSUN. Prior to his education at CSUN, he attended The Master's College (TMC) and earned his Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Physical Therapy.
Jared aims to assist individuals in achieving their goals by improving movement systems, health, and wellness. Outside of the clinic, you may find Jared on the soccer field, playing volleyball, at the beach surfing, in the mountains snowboarding or mountain biking – you name it.
Sandy Sipe, MPT, CMP
Sandy Sipe joined the Ventura Orthopedic team in Feb of 2012, after moving from Huntington Beach, CA with her husband and two children. She graduated from Colorado State University, with a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Anatomy/Neurobiology and had the opportunity to swim as a Division I athlete for the school. She then graduated from the Physical Therapy program at the University of Colorado Health Science Center in Denver, CO. After a few months of traveling, she decided to move to the ocean and started her career in Orange County.
Sandy has enjoyed participating in continuing education classes. Several years ago, she was drawn to the Mulligan concept of manual therapy (bmulligan.com) and studied to become a Certified Mulligan Practitioner. She enjoys the field of orthopedic/sports medicine and feels she is living the adage, "if you love what you do, you never work a day in your whole life."
She enjoys spending time w her family, surfing, hiking and serving, as well as enjoying, the Ventura community.
Adria Tenison, PT, MPT
Adria Tenison is a Santa Barbara native and has been with Ventura Orthopedics since 2002. In 1988 she received her Bachelors of science in biopsychology from Mt. St. Mary's College and her Masters of Physical Therapy from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific.
Adria has worked in a variety of settings including: neurological rehabilitation, pediatrics, geriatrics, home and community neurological rehabilitation and orthopedics. She currently enjoys working with orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation patients to regain their function and assisting them with community resources.
Adria lives in Ventura with her husband and three children. She enjoys exercising, travel, gardening and cooking.
Josh Turner, PT, DPT, OCS

Josh earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from California State University, Long Beach and then moved to the East Coast for his doctorate degree in physical therapy from University of Massachusetts, Lowell. After graduation, Josh returned to Southern California and worked in Orange County for several months before making his way up to Ventura County, eventually joining Ventura Orthopedics in 2016.
A board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, Josh has over five years of physical therapy experience in orthopedics, sports and chronic pain. He believes in correcting bad movement patterns along with rehabilitating the damaged structure for overall wellness and prevention. Josh and his wife, Katie, live in Camarillo. His hobbies include cycling, mountain biking, martial arts and home brewing.
