BiographyMark J. Ghilarducci, M.D. is a native of California, born and raised in Sacramento. Dr. Ghilarducci is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a Fellow of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Ghilarducci is fellowship trained in sports medicine and has a specialty interest and training in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee. He has performed over 1500 arthroscopic procedures. Dr. Ghilarducci's interest in orthopedics and sports medicine was sparked during his intercollegiate NCAA basketball participation as a scholarship athlete. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry from St. Mary's College in Moraga, California. After graduating college in the San Francisco Bay area, he attended medical school at the University of Southern California and received his Doctor of Medicine in 1985. He completed residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Southern California. Dr. Ghilarducci's sports medicine fellowship was at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts where he worked with the Boston Celtics and Harvard University as well as the Boston Blazers professional Lacrosse team. After completing his sports medicine fellowship, he returned to Southern California. He joined Ventura Orthopedics in 1992. Board Certification in orthopedic surgery was completed in 1993 with re-certification in 2001. He has served as team physician for a number of local high school, college, and recreational sports teams. With other physicians in his group, he provides athletic pre-participation physicals for hundreds of local athletes each year, and is director of a sports injury clinic for local athletes. He remains active in local and regional education with lectures on numerous orthopedic and sports related topics. His research and academic interests have included the anterior cruciate ligament in the knee and rotator cuff tears in the shoulder. Always on the cutting edge of medicine, he is one of the first in Ventura County to have performed Autologous Cartilage Implantation procedures in the knee. Dr. Ghilarducci is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, the California Orthopedic Association, the California Medical Association, and the Ventura County Medical Society. He currently is a board member of the Ventura County Medical Society. He lives in Camarillo with his wife and two sons.
